Tips for Dressing for Success

Dressing for success is the beginning of learning how to become successful in your business. In order to become a successful business woman, we must dress professionally; change our attitude, and a few simple things such as taking care of our nails, skin, hair, and our image.  We shall begin with our image and learn what clothing looks best for our body type. Clothing, shoes, and accessories are a woman's best friend, but we must learn what works for our body type. Everything that glitters is not gold and every article of clothing was not created to flatter every body type. Every woman deserves to become an American top model but it is essential to learn what works best for your body. We must learn how to adapt to our body's natural curves and anatomy, learning that what may work for one woman may not work for another. There is nothing wrong with that and there is nothing to feel ashamed about because you are beautiful and God created us all to be different so we may learn how to embrace ourselves and others without fear of prejudice. Body types affect all women regardless of of size or weight and once we learn what is appropriate for our body type now we can learn how to choose professional attire that creates our outer appearance...

How do we define professional dress?
Professional dress is also known as business attire which is usually a business dress, a business skirt suit, or a business pant suit that is flattering upon the person who is wearing it. A business suit may be created by simply applying a blazer or bolero in your closet and match it with a camisole and a matching skirt that is below the knee or longer. Avoid patterns and colors that are extreme and are casual, no cleavage so ensure your blouse or shirt covers your cleavage, and finally, your undergarments should  fit in order to properly support your figure.
Dressing for success should be inexpensive. It does not require racking debt in clothing, shoes, hairstyling, nails, and accessories Begin with dressing for success in shopping in your closet. Buy small pieces such as a matching camisole, skin tone pantyhose, and matching low-mid closed pumps (no dress sandals!) According to Monster.com, colors may be used to create an accent shade within a professional suit. Colors such as a black or gray represents authority; red represents confidence and control; blue represents trust and traditional values; and finally green represents tranquility and empathy.

What about Accessories...piercings, and tattoos?
Accessories such as belts, shoes, scarves, and jewelry all should coordinate with business attire, no loud or flashy colors. Think of earth toned colors such as beige, deep browns, light and medium browns…other colors such as navy and black are widely accepted in the professional environment. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum…no large or flashy jewelry pieces should be worn with professional business attire. Earrings in the ear should be kept to a maximum of 1 in each ear. Tattoos should not be visible! Body piercings should not be visible and must be confined to remain worn in the ears as previously stated. Do not create debt to dress professionally!!!You can add a few simple pieces to your professional attire such as a camisole, skirt, slacks (no capri pants & no leggings), a short or long sleeved blazer, a blouse, collared shirt, or a plain dress shirt. You can buy these simple pieces at your local discount store or a consignment shop (great prices!).
